Potato Waste Water, Potato Wastes, Starch Dewatering, Water Wash Cleaning, Mud Dewatering

Case History

Plant process 300 tons/day (672,000 lbs/day) of pre-washed potato.

They produce 75 tons/day (168,000 lbs/day) of chips (potato crisps).

Starch Recovery

For Potato starch, a 1% effluent feed will produce a snow like solids discharge at 55% ds.

The S3-0 recovers 6.25 tons/day (14,000 lbs/day) starch at 55% moisture ready for direct sale at $150/ton ($70/1000 lbs).

Effluent

Installed SC4-01 with a macerator in the feed line. All effluent goes through the system at 55 m3/hr. The decanter produces 30 tons/day (67,200 lbs/day) of solids at 50% moisture.
This product is sold as cattle feed at $8/ton ($3.6/1000 lbs).

Before the decanter, effluent was taken away at a cost of $45/ton ($20/1000 lbs).

Suspended solids discharge to the city was typically 1000-1400 ppm and was reduced to less than 300 ppm after the centrifuge was installed.

  • Original effluent costs were $3.2/m3 --- $64,000/month
  • Reduced costs are now $1.6/m3 --- $32,000/month

Caustic used for equipment boil-out is no longer thrown away but kept for pH adjustment (range 8-9) before the macerator.

NB: - Using a Gilkes pump for feed to the decanter - $3200
Also were using a mono - $16,000 - problems with starter.
