The CQ Decanter Centrifuges are versatile and capable of
adapting to varying throughput and process / material types. The machines
are easy to adjust, require little operator attention, are relatively
quiet, and feature a small footprint. Decanter Centrifuge Models
The CQ Decanter Centrifuges consist primarily of a centrifuge-bowl, solids-conveyor (scroll), drive-motor, hydraulic scroll-backdrive, machine base, and covers. The covers serve as a guard and complete enclosure for the rotating assembly to contain and direct the solids cake and clarified effluent as they discharge from the rotating assembly. The feed liquid / slurry is introduced to the centrifuge through a feed tube and into the feed distribution chamber. The feed chamber accerlerates the slurry to the speed of the bowl before introducing the slurry into the bowl.
Under centrifugal force the solids separate from the liquid and settle against the bowl wall, while the clarified liquid exits over the adjustable overflow weir. The scroll turns at a slightly different speed and conveys the solids up the inclined beach where it discharges from the solids end of the centrifuge. The slower the scroll moves in relation to the bowl, the longer the sediment remains in the centrifuge and the greater the liquid / solid separation. This differential between bowl and conveyor speed is fully adjustable, allowing a wide range of cake dryness. Optimal liquid / solid separation can be achieved by adjusting the conveyor speed and depth of the liquid in the bowl. All CQ Model Decanter Centrifuges feature our standard triple angled bowl design. The decanter centrifuge bowls are manufactured in high wear and corrosion resistant "Duplex" steels to reduce maintenance costs. Internally, the decanter centrifuge bowl is unique because of the triple angled bowl and scroll, which allows the separated solids to be conveyed more effectively and with lower torque.
One of the major maintenance costs is scroll wear, particularly at the interface between the horizontal section of the bowl and the conical section (beach) of the bowl. The original objective in designing a scroll with a two-step beach angle at the conical section was to spread the wear and extend the time before the scroll needed repair. It has been a great success but an additional benefit is improved process performance. Solids are not held up at the transition from cylinder to conical sections and they are easier to convey. We see a reduction in torque and often a drier cake. All CQ Model Decanter Centrigues are fitted with the major advantage of Viscotherm hydraulic scroll backdrives. The hydraulic scroll drive is incorporated as part of the bowl itself, eliminating the traditional practice of having a large motor or gearbox hanging on the end of the machine outside the pillow block bearings. This design reduces load and vibration, which allows the CQ machines to run at higher speeds while meeting stringent design safety standards. Decanter Centrifuge Advantages The hydraulic scroll drive also provides significant processing advantages:
All CQ Model Horizontal Centrifuges are equipped with a field relaceable polyurethane feed liner. We introduced a field replaceable polyurethane feed liner five years ago to minimize the wear in the feed zone of the scroll. It is designed as a field replaceable item to reduce machine down time and repair costs. The ployurethane feed liner has proven so successful that we still have not replaced one. ![]()
